Two big problems --- tended to shred nails rather than a clean cut. Also the lock feature would fall into to place after most cuts so had to be unlocked --- annoying. Poor design.These are very well designed and sharp while keeping cat's paws safe. I can actually make it through 3 paws before he's Done with it and I have to let him go.Okay, so this isn't a photo of me cutting his claws - kind of hard to hold camera and cat and cut at the same time. But it is Mr. Boo on his own desk chair - I put a huge towel over his head and body (it doesn't help keep him quieter) and with the swivel of the chair it's much easier to get a good position to make clean cuts.I lost my first set and came back and ordered a second set. I have tried others that broke during use. These have been good for me so far. My large dog doesn't seem to mind them either!I have been afraid to take my dog to Petco for his pedicure. I have a nail grinder at home that takes forever and I’ve been nipped by an angry dog. I finally realized the grinder is to be used after clipping. I’ve been terrified of clipping, but more terrified of COVID-19. Bought this combo after reading reviews. I cannot believe how easy and fast it was to clip his nails!! No load noise humming! He ran off a few times and think I may have gotten close to the quick on a black nail, but all in all, a way more pleasant experience! The guard was the key to success. And the file buffed quicker than the grinder!! So glad I bought this!!For a dog nail trimmer, this is a good one. The clipper portion of the trimmers is larger than the ones at my local pet store so good for pets with thicker nails. Was very easy to snip through dog nails. The safeguard is a rotating piece of metal that can be put behind the clipper portion so the nail is inserted between the clipper blades until it hits the safeguard. So as long as the portion of the nail that needs to be trimmed is longer than the distance from the clipper portion to the safeguard, it works nicely to make sure a nail isn't overcut. The safeguard can also be rotated out of the way if you need to cut off more nail than that distance. Works nicely. I also like the locking feature that keeps the clipper blades closed when not using as it can't accidently be bumped and unclipped. The nail file is a nice touch but haven't use it much. The grip on the both the nail clippers and the file is nice.Have pinched my fingers a few times - a little awkwardI will give it a '5' although with some hesitation. Not as strong or sturdy as my old one I have misplaced, but they are much stronger than most out there on the market. I only do the nails of two small 9 and 12 inch dogs. I used it as they were overgrown and thick and it did a good job. Were sharp, precise and fully sturdy enough and did the job quickly and without any problems. My dogs have black quicks but I didn't cut any too short so no blood or pain. The file actually worked pretty well, too. So for my situation and results, 5 stars. However for a large dog I don't think they would work or hold up that well. I would have ordered a heavier and more expensive pair if I had to do that. And I want to mention that these fit well in my medium size hand and that is an important feature.I purchased item solely on the fact they are angled. I had an angled pair years ago & they were wonderful. All the straight ones are difficult to use. I have looked for years to find anther 'angled' one. But this are @ 2 inches shorter & not as heavy duty.My west highland terrier hates getting her nails clipped and sometimes has to be sedated. I bought these clippers thinking that it would be better if I cut her nails instead of her getting into a state at the vets. The clippers were comfortable to hold and cut her nails without splitting them. I was dubious about cutting the nails but surprised how well I managed. She still hates getting her nails clipped but was a lot better with me clipping them than the vet. I would recommend these nail clippers.This chlipper is of excellent quality but a bit too big and cumbersome to use on cat claws. There is some little metal plate which shields the blades and it makes it almost impossible to see exactly where I'm cutting a tiny cat claw. This may not not be a problem when it comes to dogs claws.Great nail clippers. I have arthritis in my hands & find that these clippers fit nicely in my hand, as they nice & slim & very easy to squeeze together. They cut nicely & don't crush the nail.
